
Overview
This comprehensive course is designed to equip food handlers with the essential knowledge and skills to ensure food safety in various food service environments. Recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, this certification meets the provincial requirements for food handler training.
Course Content
- Introduction to Food Safety: Understanding the importance of food safety and its impact on public health.
- Microbiology Basics: Identifying common foodborne pathogens and their sources.
- Contamination and Prevention: Recognizing types of contamination and implementing preventive measures.
- Personal Hygiene: Best practices for personal cleanliness to prevent food contamination.
Course Format
The course is available online, allowing participants to learn at their own pace. It includes interactive modules, quizzes, and a final assessment to reinforce learning. The total estimated completion time is approximately six hours.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course and final exam, participants will receive a Food Handler Certificate recognized by all public health units in Ontario. This certification is valid for five years.
Ontario Regulatory Requirement
According to Ontario Regulation 493/17, every operator of a food service premise must ensure that there is at least one certified food handler or supervisor on the premises during all operating hours.
